Thecemita is asandwich originally fromPuebla, Mexico. Also known ascemita poblana, it derives from the city (and region) ofPuebla.[1][2] The word refers to the sandwich as well as to the roll it is typically served on, a bread roll covered withsesame seeds.[3] Additionally, the ingredients usually are restricted to slicedavocado, meat,Oaxaca cheese, the herbpápalo andchipotleadobado, or jalapeño.[1]
TheReal Academia Española[4] sayscemita comes from "acemite" (archaic Spanish for "bran")[5] which in turn comes fromAramaic, and is related to Greekσεμίδαλις (semídalis) ("semolina").
