Cavan (/keɪvən/KAY-vən) is a rural community situated on the south bank of theMurrumbidgee River in theYass Valley Shire.[3][4] At the2016 census, it had a population of 47.[2] It is situated by road, about 40 kilometres southwest ofYass and 43 northwest ofCanberra. It was named after the town ofCavan inIreland. It is reportedly owned byRupert Murdoch.[5]
Cavan Post Office opened on 1 March 1887, closed in 1902, reopened in 1913 and closed in 1951.[6]
