Philosophy of physics is the study of the fundamental, philosophical questions underlying modernphysics, the study ofmatter andenergy and how theyinteract. Perhaps the main questions concern the nature ofspace andtime, atoms andatomism, cosmogony, the interpretation of the results ofquantum mechanics, the foundations ofstatistical mechanics, causality, determinism, and the nature ofphysical laws. Classically, several of these questions were studied as part ofmetaphysics (for example, those about causality, determinism, and space and time). Today, the philosophy of physics is very close to and the most active subtopic withinphilosophy of science.
