For a brief period of time in the mid- to late-1950s,magnetic amplifiers were experimented with as asolid state switching device forcomputer systems. This produced a small number ofmagnetic logic based machines. The introduction of newertransistor fabrication techniques led to rapidly falling prices and improved performance, and by the early 1960s most efforts using magamps had ended.
