Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is an upcomingMetroidvania game scheduled to be released in 2026. The game is to be developed by Evil Empire in partnership with and published byKonami Digital Entertainment. It is the 26th installment in theCastlevania series. The game's protagonist is a descendant ofTrevor Belmont. The game is set inFrance in the year 1499, 23 years after the events ofCastlevania III: Dracula's Curse (1989).
Belmont's Curse is aside-scrollingplatformer. The protagonist, armed with the Belmont family's holy whip " Vampire Killer", explores and adventures through the city of Paris while fighting monsters. Similar toSuper Castlevania IV, the game's whip attack allows for free movement and enables additional movement techniques, such as using it to swing from points like a rope.[3][4]
The game's world is open and non-linear, following theMetroidvania format established inCastlevania: Symphony of the Night, including an auto-filling map, rooms to save the game, and dedicated fast travel points.[5]
The game is set inMedieval Paris in the year 1499, ravaged by demonic creatures. The localbishop sends a letter to Trevor Belmont begging him to save his people.[6] Trevor and a young member of the Belmont clan set out to rid the city of its invaders and determine how they crossed over.[7]
The game is being developed in partnership with Konami by twoBordeaux-based indie development studios, Evil Empire, developer ofThe Rogue Prince of Persia, and under an advisory role,[1] Motion Twin, developer ofDead Cells.[8]
In February 2026, the game was announced to the public during a PlayStationState of Play livestream.[9] The game's announcement and release coincides with the 40th anniversary of the originalCastlevania, released in 1986, with Konami adding thatBelmont's Curse will be the "the beginning of numerous new products aroundCastlevania".[10]
