Cartoona Ridge is amountainridge extending east from the eastern side of theMount Edziza volcanic complex in northwesternBritish Columbia, Canada. It is bounded on the north byShaman Creek valley, on the south byChakima Creek valley, on the east byKakiddi Creek valley and on the west by theBig Raven Plateau.[3] Its highest point and only named peak isCartoona Peak at the westernmost end of the ridge with an elevation of 2,300 metres (7,500 feet).[1][3] Carttona Ridge is one of three ridges east of the Big Raven Plateau named by CanadianvolcanologistJack Souther, the other two beingIdiji Ridge andSorcery Ridge to the north.[3]
The lower slopes of Cartoona Ridge are covered withfelsenmeer,till andglacial andfluvialoutwash, as well assolifluction deposits. The lowermost rock outcrops areMiocenealkali basalt flows of theRaspberry Formation. Overlying these rocks are Miocenecomendites andtrachytes of theArmadillo Formation which are in the form ofpumice,ash flows,tuffs,lava flows andlava domes. The Armadillo Formation at the westernmost end of Cartoona Ridge is overlain byPliocene alkali basalt of theNido Formation.[3]
