Unincorporated community in Texas, US

Carpenter is a smallunincorporated community in westernWilson County,Texas, United States.[1][2] It lies between the towns ofLa Vernia andSt. Hedwig onFarm to Market Road 1346. The community is part of theSan AntonioMetropolitan Statistical Area.[2]

History

Carpenter was named for a local land owner when founded in 1893 as a stop on theSan Antonio and Mexican Gulf Railroad.[2] In the early 1900s, the community had acotton gin,general store andpost office, with Joseph Winkler as thepostmaster, but the post office was discontinued in 1928.[2] The town steadily declined after the rail line was closed and today only a small cluster of homes remain.[2]
