Carolyn Presutti is aVoice of America (VOA) senior televisioncorrespondent based inWashington, DC.[1]
Presutti was raised by Clara and Dominic Presutti inBellaire, Ohio.[2] Her ancestry isItalian. Dominic enlisted in theUnited States Navy duringWorld War II and witnessed theiconic flag- raising during theBattle of Iwo Jima. Later, he co-owned and managedOhio Fireworks Mfg. & Display Co.[2]

She began herjournalism career atWHBC Radio inCanton, Ohio, andWKBN Radio inYoungstown, Ohio.[4]
She moved into television atWFMJ-TV inYoungstown, Ohio, as chiefweathercaster and nightside reporter.[5] Then, she was a state capital reporter and weekend anchor atWTVR-TV inRichmond, Virginia.[4] She worked forBaltimore, Maryland'sWMAR-TV until 1994.[4] Presutti was subsequently a morning anchor atWUSA-TV inWashington, DC, making public appearances and serving as emcee at the 1996Sons of Italy Banquet, which was attended bySenator Bob Dole,Alfred Checchi andJoe Paterno.[6] In 1996, she joinedA.H. Belo broadcasting group, where she co-hosted the weekly political talk show “Capital Conversation,” withDallas Morning News bureau chiefCarl Luebsdorf. Presutti joined VOA in 2007.
In 2011, VOA sent Presutti toHaiti for the anniversary of the2010 earthquake. There, she conducted exclusive interviews with the President of Haiti,Michel Martelly, and was invited to join the presidential motorcade.[7] She also conducted the first interview withSophia Martelly after she became Haiti's first lady.[8] Presutti's feature story on an amputee Haitian soccer team won anAssociated Press award.[9]
Presutti provided initial coverage following the2013 Boston Marathon bombing, returning to report on the event's first anniversary.[10][11] In 2014, she partnered witha cappella group,Pentatonix, to cover the first use ofGoogle Glass at a professional concert. Presutti coveredHillary Clinton's headquarters and concession speech after the candidate's2016 presidential election loss.[12] In 2019, she led the US coverage of the agency-wide project,The Worth of a Girl, which won numerous national and international awards.[13][14] Presutti covered the2020 election[15][16] andJoe Biden's acceptance speech inWilmington,Delaware.[17]
In addition to journalism, Presutti has appeared as a television news anchor in theNetflix seriesHouse of Cards, headlined byKevin Spacey andRobin Wright, and as a U.S. senator's wife in theHBO seriesVeep alongsideJulia Louis-Dreyfus.[18] After appearing as an extra in the 2010 romantic comedyHow Do You Know, starringReese Witherspoon andOwen Wilson, she published an article about her experience inWashingtonian Magazine.[19]
