Carolyn Peterson is a Texaspreservation architect.
Born Carolyn Safar, she was educated atVictoria College and theUniversity of Texas at Austin. In 1964, Peterson joined theSan Antonio architectural firm now known asFord, Powell & Carson; she became a partner in 1979. She has designed restorations for theSpanish missions in San Antonio.
In 1979, she was awarded a contract to preserve the historical significance of theAlamo Mission. She has restored several county courthouses in Texas and theTexas State Capitol, as well as buildings in theStrand Historic District ofGalveston.[1][2]
In 1963, she married Jack Peterson, also an architect.[2]
Peterson was named aFellow in theAmerican Institute of Architects in 1991.[3]

In 2008, she was inducted into theTexas Women's Hall of Fame.[1] In 2009, she received the Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Honor of Llewellyn W. Pitts from theTexas Society of Architects.
