Carlsbad is acensus-designated place andunincorporated community in northwesternTom Green County, Texas, United States. It lies alongU.S. Route 87, northwest of the city ofSan Angelo, thecounty seat of Tom Green County.[1] Its elevation is 2,024 feet (617 m).[2] Although Carlsbad is unincorporated, it has apost office, with theZIP code of 76934;[3] theZCTA for ZIP Code 76934 had a population of 1,332 at the2000 census.[4]
This was a new CDP for the2010 census, with a population of 719.[5]
Located along theNorth Concho River, Carlsbad was founded in 1907 under the name of Hughes. When thePost Office required the community to be renamed, residents chose the name of thespa town ofKarlsbad inBohemia, after local wells were discovered to yieldmineral water.[6]
