Carl Brent Swisher (April 28, 1897 – June 14, 1968) was an American political scientist and historian who was an expert on the history of theSupreme Court of the United States. He was particularly recognized for his biographies of Supreme Court justices, includingStephen J. Field andRoger B. Taney.[1] He was the Thomas P. Stran Professor of Political Science atJohns Hopkins University from 1938 until his death in 1968.[2][3] He was president of theSouthern Political Science Association in 1956–57 and of theAmerican Political Science Association in 1959–60.[4]
