Caritas Catholica Belgica, also known asCaritas in Belgium (Dutch:Caritas in België,French:Caritas en Belgique) is aBelgian confederation ofCatholic relief, development and social service organizations operating inFlanders andWallonia. The organization used to group about 1,100 institutions active inhealthcare in Belgium.
Caritas Catholica Belgica was founded in 1932 at the initiative of the Belgianbishops as theKatholieke Dienst voor Hygiëne en Hulpbetoon. In 1935, the name becameCaritas Catholica Belgica.[3]
In 1982, the organization was split intoCaritas Vlaanderen (Caritas Catholica Flanders,Flanders) andCaritas en Communauté Française et Germanophone (Caritas Catholica Wallonia,Wallonia) andCaritas International as a national organization.[4]
