Ronald Nathan LaTour Jr. (born September 24, 1984), professionally known asCardo Got Wings or simplyCardo, is an American record producer and rapper.[2] He's known for his works withPlayboi Carti,Kendrick Lamar, andWiz Khalifa, among others. He also producedGod's Plan byDrake, as well asGoosebumps byTravis Scott and Kendrick Lamar.
Cardo was born and raised inSt. Paul, Minnesota.[3] He then moved toFort Worth, Texas.[4]
In 2010, Cardo was producing forMac Miller andChevy Woods and subsequently metWiz Khalifa at a show in Texas through Chevy Woods and his uncle Motor. Cardo gave Khalifa a couple of hisbeats, which would end up on Khalifa'sKush & Orange Juice mixtape.[5] Cardo then started producing for other artists.[6]
Cardo and Payroll Giovanni signed record deals withDef Jam Records in December 2017.[7]
Cardo is the founder and CEO of the record label Everything is Gold Music (EISG). Cardo was previously a member of, and producer on,Taylor Gang Records, and is currently signed toFool's Gold Records.[8] He has produced on many rappers' albums and singles includingCurren$y,2 Chainz,Drake,Skepta,Kendrick Lamar,Travi$ Scott,ScHoolboy Q,Meek Mill,The Game,Wiz Khalifa,R. Kelly,Jeezy,Jay Z,Frank Dukes andSwizz Beatz, among others.[9] In June 2022, he signed Atlanta rapper YoDogg to EISG, in a joint venture withEpic Records.[10]
Cardo's professional name was derived from relatives who named him 'Ricardo' thePuerto Rican, despite being fully aware of hisCaucasian andAfrican American descent.[11]
