Car () is the most widely spokenNicobarese language of theNicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal.

Although a member of theAustroasiatic language family, it is typologically much more akin to nearbyAustronesian languages such asNias andAcehnese, with which it forms alinguistic area.[3] Car is aVOS language and somewhatagglutinative.[4] There is a quite complicated verbalsuffix system with someinfixes, as well as distinct genitive and "interrogative" cases for nouns and pronouns.[5]
