The Mercury 15 is a recreationalkeelboat or dinghy, depending on the model, originally built of wood, since 1948 it has been constructed offiberglass, with wood trim. It has afractionalsloop rig withaluminum spars. The hull has a spoonedplumb stem, a plumbtransom, a transom-hungrudder controlled by atiller and a fixed finkeel or a retractablecenterboard.[1][4]
The design has accommodation for five people, but is normally sailing with a crew of twosailors.[5]
An optionalteak motor mount is available to allow use of anoutboard motor for docking and maneuvering.[1]
For sailing the design may be equipped with an optionalgenoa andspinnaker.Roller furling, aboom vang andboat trailers for both versions are also optional.[5]
