TheCape Cod Gemini is an Americansailing dinghy that was designed byA. Sidney DeWolf Herreshoff as aday sailer and first built in 1955.[1][2][3][4][5]
The design was initially built by theHerreshoff Manufacturing Company and later byCape Cod Shipbuilding in theUnited States. A total of 150 boats have been completed since 1955, but it is now out of production. The manufacturer indicates that the molds are still available and that production could be re-started with a fleet order.[1][4][5][6][7][8][9]
The Cape Cod Gemini is aplaningsailboat, initially built of wood and later constructed offiberglass, with wood trim. It has afractionalsloop rig, aplumb stem, an angledtransom, a transom-hungrudder controlled by atiller and twin retractableleeboards. It displaces 440 lb (200 kg).[1][4]
The boat has a draft of 3.33 ft (1.01 m) with a leeboard extended and 7 in (18 cm) with both retracted, allowing operation in shallow water, beaching or ground transportation on atrailer.[1][4]
The design is normally sailed with a crew of twosailors, but can accommodate up to five adults.[5]
The design has ahull speed of 5.15 kn (9.54 km/h).[4]
