TheCanadian Aerodrome Company was the first commercial enterprise in theBritish Empire to design and manufacture aircraft. The company was formed following the dissolution ofAlexander Graham Bell'sAerial Experiment Association. The company was established byFrederick W. "Casey" Baldwin andJ.A.D. McCurdy in 1909, with the financial backing of Alexander Graham Bell. The company was headquartered inBaddeck, Nova Scotia at the Kite House at Bell'sBeinn Bhreagh estate.[1]
The Canadian Aerodrome Company manufactured aircraft based on theAEA Silver Dart, producing theBaddeck No. 1, and theBaddeck No. 2 as well as a separate commissioned design, theHubbard Monoplane (Hubbard II) before the company was dissolved in 1910.[1][N 1]
