Campursari inIndonesian refers to a crossover of several contemporaryIndonesian musicgenres, mainly Javaneselanggam jawa anddangdut. The wordcampursari was coined from theJavanese language and means "mixture of essences". Campursari music is prevalent within theJavanese cultural sphere, especially inCentral Java, theSpecial Region of Yogyakarta, andEast Java, and also in some regions where Javanese immigrants are abundant, such as parts ofGreater Jakarta,Lampung or evenSuriname. It is related to modifying several musical instruments, such as thegamelan, combined with Western musical instruments, such as the guitar and keyboard. The combination thus ends up with the Western instruments being dominated by the traditional Javanese instruments according to the local taste of langgam jawa andgending.

Some popular Campursari artists areDidi Kempot and older langgam jawakroncong divaWaljinah.
