Camerota is a town andcomune in theprovince of Salerno in theCampania region of south-westernItaly.
Its toponym could come from theGreek word "καμαρὸτος" (kamaròtos), meaning curved; or from theLatin word "camurus", with the same meaning.[3]
Camerota is a hill town situated in the southern area ofCilento, 6 km north of theCilentan Coast. The municipality borders withCelle di Bulgheria,Centola,Roccagloriosa andSan Giovanni a Piro.[4]
The municipality of Camerota (1,585 inh. in the chief town) has 3 hamlets ("frazioni"):[5]Lentiscosa,Licusati andMarina di Camerota.
The municipality includes also several inhabited localities, mainly composed by few scattered houses. The localities are: Cala d'Arconte, Isca della Contessa, L'Assunta, Lido Mingardo (or Spiaggia Mingardo), Monte di Luna andPorto Infreschi.
