Calvin William Ramsay (born 31 July 2003) is a Scottish professionalfootballer who plays as aright-back forPremier League clubLiverpool.
After progressing through the youth ranks atAberdeen, Ramsay made his debut as a late substitute againstDundee United in March 2021, under caretaker managerPaul Sheerin. Ramsay went on to make another five appearances in his first season with the senior team.[4] He made his European debut for the club against Swedish sideBK Häcken in July 2021 in aUEFA Conference League qualifier. He started at right back in a 5–1 win andassisting the first goal of the game. Ramsay won theSFWA Young Player of the Year award for 2021–22, his only full season with Aberdeen.[5]
Ramsay moved toPremier League clubLiverpool in June 2022. He signed a five-year contract for an initial fee of £4.2m,[6][7] a club record sale for Aberdeen at the time.[8]
On 1 November 2022, Ramsay made his debut for Liverpool when he came on as an 87th minute substitute in the 2-0 win againstNapoli in the2022–23 UEFA Champions League.[9]On 9 November 2022, he started his first game for Liverpool in the win againstDerby County in the third round of theEFL Cup atAnfield.[10] In February 2023, having made only two appearances for Liverpool's first team, Ramsay was ruled out for the rest of the2022–23 season following surgery on an unspecified injury.[11][12]
On 29 October 2025, Ramsay made his first appearance for Liverpool in three years in a 3-0 defeat toCrystal Palace in theEFL Cup.
On 13 June 2023, after having had his appearances limited for Liverpool, Ramsay was sent on loan toEFL Championship clubPreston North End for the 2023–24 season.[13] He was recalled by Liverpool on 15 January 2024 after making two appearances during his time with Preston,[14] and two weeks later joinedEFL League One sideBolton Wanderers on loan, following in the footsteps of his Liverpool team-matesConor Bradley andOwen Beck, who had made the move to theToughsheet Community Stadium in the previous season.[15] He played 69 minutes with Bolton across three appearances.[16]
On 5 June 2024, Ramsay was again sent on loan, this time toWigan Athletic for the 2024–25 season.[17] Having only made twelve appearances in all competitions across the first half of the season, he returned to Liverpool on 3 January 2025.[18] Ten days later he was loaned to Scottish Premiership clubKilmarnock.[19] He made eight appearances with Kilmarnock.[20]
Ramsay was called up to the seniorScotland squad in November 2022.[21] He made his international debut on 16 November in a 2–1 friendly defeat toTurkey.[22]
