Calvatone (Lombard:Calvatòon) is acomune (municipality) in theProvince of Cremona,Lombardy, located about 110 kilometres (68 mi) southeast ofMilan and about 35 kilometres (22 mi) east ofCremona. Its territory is crossed by theOglio River. InRoman times it was known asBedriacum.
In the time of theRoman Empire, there was avicus in the approximate area of Calvatone, called Bedriacum. During theYear of the Four Emperors in 69 AD, there were twoBattles of Bedriacum, both decisive conflicts. The first ended in the death ofOtho, who killed himself in order to halt the bloodshed, and the second in the defeat and execution ofVitellius.
The coat of arms and banner of the municipality of Calvatone were granted by Presidential Decree of April 24, 2000.[3]
