Calum Ferguson (born 12 February 1995) is a Scottishfootball player who plays as aforward forHighland Football League clubBrechin City. Born in Scotland, he has represented Canada at youth international level.
After progressing through the youth ranks atInverness, Ferguson made the game-day squad for the first time with the Caley Jags against his former clubRoss County on 19 May 2013.[1] Ferguson was loaned toMontrose in early 2014.[2] He played four games before his loan ended. He would again make the game-day squad with Inverness againstPartick Thistle on 7 February 2015 in theScottish Cup.[3] Ferguson finally made his debut for Inverness againstKilmarnock on 21 February as a substitute in a 3–3 draw.[4]
After leaving Inverness at the end of the2015–16 season, Ferguson signed forScottish League One sideAlbion Rovers in July 2016, after impressing as atrialist in a pre-season friendly againstMotherwell.[5] Ferguson hit the headlines withAlbion Rovers when he scored a dramatic last minute winner in theScottish Cup againstQueen of the South to send his side through to playCeltic.[6]
In summer 2017, Ferguson signed withScottish League Two sideElgin City.[7]
On 3 April 2019, Ferguson signed withCanadian Premier League sideValour FC after a trial.[8] He had previously spent time on trial withHFX Wanderers FC.[9] He made his debut for Valour on 8 May againstCavalry FC.[10] On 11 May, Ferguson scored his first goal for Valour in a 1–0 win overHFX Wanderers.[10] On 7 October 2019, Ferguson was granted an early leave from the club to pursue opportunities in New Zealand.[11]
On 1 November 2019, Ferguson signed withNew Zealand Football Championship sideCanterbury United FC.[12] He made his debut on 2 November as a starter in a 1–0 loss toEastern Suburbs.[10]
After spending 2021 withNPSL sideErie Commodores, Ferguson signed withNIFL Premiership sideWarrenpoint Town until the end of the season on 13 February 2022.[13]
Ferguson's mother was born in Canada, and as a result he has eligibility for both Canada and Scotland. He made his debut for Canada at theunder-18 level at the 2013 Torneo COTIF,[14] where he scored a goal againstBelarus.[15] In 2014, he progressed to theunder-20 team and participated at the 2014Milk Cup[16] and the2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship.[17]
Ferguson was called up byCascadia for the2018 ConIFA World Football Cup.[18] He finished the tournament with 5 goals in 6 games as Cascadia finished 6th overall.
Ferguson is a fluent speaker ofScottish Gaelic and appeared regularly onBBC Radio nan Gàidheal andBBC Alba.[19]
