Callum Charles Johnson (born 23 October 1996) is an English professionalfootballer who plays as aright-back forNational League clubGateshead.

Club career

Middlesbrough

Born in theBorough of Stockton-on-Tees, Johnson first representedMiddlesbrough's Academy at the under-9 level.[4] He originally played as adefensive-midfielder but soon converted to the role ofright-back and by July 2017, was invited by first team managerGarry Monk to train with the senior side.[5] He was also a part of theMiddlesbrough squad which competed in the2015–16 UEFA Youth League.[6][7]

Accrington Stanley

On 31 August 2017, Johnson joinedAccrington Stanley on a short-term loan, lasting until the end of January.[8] He then made his debut for the club on 9 September 2017 in theEFL Trophy againstMiddlesbrough's U21 side, playing in acentral-midfield role and receiving a yellow card in the 81st minute.[9] He then went on the play the full 90 minutes in their nextEFL Trophy tie, again playing incentral-midfield, on 2 October 2017 againstBlackpool at theCrown Ground.[10][11]

On 5 January 2018, Johnson signed permanently with the club on a two-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed amount.[12]

Portsmouth

In September 2020 Johnson signed forPortsmouth.[13] He scored his first goal for the club in anFA Cup tie againstBristol City on 9 January 2021.[14] Having spent the2021–22 season on loan atFleetwood Town,[15] Johnson was released at the end of the season.[16]

Ross County

Johnson signed a two-year contract withRoss County in July 2022.[17]

Mansfield Town

On 13 January 2023, Johnson returned to English football, signing forEFL League Two clubMansfield Town for an undisclosed fee.[18]

Bradford City

On 29 May 2024, Johnson signed a one-year contract withEFL League Two clubBradford City.[19] He was released by Bradford City at the end of the 2024–25 season.[20][21]

Gateshead

On 7 July 2025, Johnson joinedNational League sideGateshead on a one-year deal with an option to extend.[22]

Style of play

Johnson is known to be a fairly versatile player, having played atright-back,centre-back, anddefensive-midfield during his career.[8][6]
