CYP39A1 (cytochromeP450, family39, subfamilyA, polypeptide1) also known asoxysterol 7-α-hydroxylase 2 is aprotein that in humans is encoded by theCYP39A1gene.[5]

This gene encodes a member of thecytochrome P450 superfamily ofenzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins aremonooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. Thisendoplasmic reticulum protein is involved in the conversion ofcholesterol tobile acids. Its substrates include the oxysterols24-hydroxycholesterol,25-hydroxycholesterol and27-hydroxycholesterol.[6]
