CUNY TV/ˈkjuːni/ is anon-commercial educational station of theCity University of New York, based inNew York City. Founded in 1985, the station produces and broadcasts locally focused programming with an emphasis on culture, education, and public affairs. In 2007, CUNY TV expanded into a full-capacity high-definition production and post-production facility.[1]
The station was first established in 1985 as CUNY TV.[1]
In 2009, the station transitioned toHDTV and began broadcasting on cable inSD and onWNYE-TV digital channel DTV 25.3 in 720p HD.[2]
In 2012, television and radio studios at CUNY TV were renamed "Himan Brown TV & Radio Studios, afterHiman Brown, an American radio producer and director.[3]
The station airs a portfolio of original content, along withAmy Goodman'sDemocracy Now! and many classic and foreign films, such as Jerry Carlson's and City College'sfilm studies program's show,City Cinematheque. Public affairs shows also includeBaruch College's forums. The station's shows are uploaded to itsYouTube channel.[4]
