Centromere protein I is aprotein that in humans is encoded by theCENPIgene.[5][6]

Function

[edit]

The product of this gene is involved in the response of gonadal tissues tofollicle-stimulating hormone. This gene is also a potential candidate for human X-linked disorders of gonadal development andgametogenesis.[6] CENPI is a target gene of thetranscription factorE2F.[7] Additionally, CENPI expression is increased inbreast cancer and this has been shown to causechromosome instability in breast cancer cells.[7]
