History

[edit]

The company was established in 1998 byCarolco Pictures co-foundersAndrew G. Vajna (who had formedCinergi Pictures until it folded in this same year) andMario Kassar.[1] In 1999, VCL Communications and Toho-Towa were attached as partners on the then-upcoming feature filmTerminator 3: Rise of the Machines.[2] The company assignedMetro-Goldwyn-Mayer the right to co-produceBasic Instinct 2.[3] Both sequels were co-produced by international backerIntermedia.[4]

The company's first production was the action comedy filmI Spy (2002). Though this film was the company's first, Kassar and Vajna's initial purpose for forming the new company was to resurrect theTerminator franchise.[5] In 2008, the company fell into dormancy and eventually was dissolved.[6]
