C/1652 Y1 was a naked-eyecomet observed, among others, byJan van Riebeeck. It was first spotted on December 14, 1652, inMexico City, by Novohispano friarDiego Rodríguez,[2] and next sighted on December 16, 1652, by Dutch observers atPernambuco (Brazil).[3]
As of June 2008[update] the comet was about 280AU from the Sun (very approximate due to poorly determined orbit).[1]
