César Morgado Ortega (born 26 January 1993) is a Spanishfootballer who plays as acentre-back forGimnàstic de Tarragona.
Born inBarcelona,Catalonia, Morgado moved toBadajoz,Extremadura with six months of age after his father joinedCD Badajoz. He also began his career at the club, and later played for CP Flecha Negra,Villarreal CF andAtlético Madrid as a youth.[1]
In 2012, after finishing his formation, Morgado joinedTercera División sideUD Badajoz, and renewed his contract with the club (now named Badajoz CF) on 5 July 2013.[2] Roughly one year later, he moved toCórdoba CF and was initially assigned tothe reserves inSegunda División B.[3]
On 5 August 2015, aftersuffering relegation, Morgado agreed to a deal with third division sideMérida AD.[4] He moved to fellow league teamCultural y Deportiva Leonesa the following 16 June,[5] but was loaned toCF Villanovense in the same category on 23 January 2017, after being rarely used.[6]
On 17 July 2017, Morgado signed for anotherreserve team,Valencia CF Mestalla still in division three.[7] The following 30 June, he returned to his first club CD Badajoz, now as a first-team member.[8]
On 15 August 2021, after three seasons as a regular starter, Morgado joinedCE Sabadell FC of the newly-createdPrimera División RFEF.[9] He continued to play in that division in the following seasons, representingCD Lugo,[10]FC Andorra[11] andGimnàstic de Tarragona;[12] he helped Andorra to achieve promotion toSegunda División in the2024–25 season, but as a backup.
In January 2009, Morgado was called up to trainings with theSpain national under-16 team.[13]
Morgado's fatherSergio was also a footballer in the same position. He also played for Atlético as a youth, and later went on to feature inLa Liga with the club.[14]
