Cáqueza (Spanish pronunciation:[kaˈkesa]) is a municipality and town ofColombia in thedepartment ofCundinamarca. The town, located on theAltiplano Cundiboyacense, is 39 kilometres (24 mi) from the capitalBogotá. The municipality bordersFosca in the south,Ubaque in the north,Une andChipaque in the west andQuetame in the east.[1]
The name Cáqueza comes fromChibcha and means "Region or enclosure without forest".[1]
The area of Cáqueza in the times before theSpanish conquest was inhabited by theMuisca and Cáqueza was ruled by thezipa based inBacatá.
Modern Cáqueza was founded on October 23, 1600 by Luis Enríquez.[1]
