Byron Murphy II (born September 8, 2002) is an American professionalfootballdefensive tackle for theSeattle Seahawks of theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theTexas Longhorns and was named theBig 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2023. Murphy was selected by the Seahawks in the first round of the2024 NFL draft.
Murphy II attendedDeSoto High School inDeSoto, Texas. As a senior, he had 79 tackles and 14 sacks. He originally committed to play college football atBaylor University before changing to theUniversity of Texas at Austin.[1][2]
As a true freshman at Texas in 2021, Murphy II played in all 12 games with one start and had 15 tackles and two sacks.[3] As a sophomore he started one of 13 games and recorded 26 tackles and one sack.[4] Murphy II became a starter as a junior in 2023, being named the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year alongsideOutland Trophy winnerT'Vondre Sweat.[5] Against Wyoming, he had a receivingtouchdown.[6]

Murphy was selected by theSeattle Seahawks in the first round with the 16th overall pick in the2024 NFL draft.[9] he signed a 4 year, $16,083,122 rookie contract with the Seahawks in 2024. That season he played in 14 games, starting 9 and recording 36 tackles, 2 TFLs and a QB Hit. He missed three games in September-October with a hamstring injury.[10]
Murphy proposed to his girlfriend, Maya Hurd on June 28, 2024.[11]
