TheBurmese peacock softshell turtle (Nilssonia formosa) is a species ofsoftshell turtle in theTrionychidae family. It is one of fivespecies in the genusNilssonia.[4]

Geographical region

The Burmese peacock softshell is found inMyanmar and possiblyThailand.[1] Also reported to be found inKarbi Anglong district ofAssam. Nuclear data analyses of aNilssonia formosa caught near Shuangbai,Yunnan, China by researchers in 2012 suggests the species crossed the watershed between the Salween and Mekong Rivers.[5]
