John Brough Scott,MBE (born 12 December 1942) is a Britishhorse racing journalist, radio and television presenter, and formerjockey. He is also the grandson[citation needed] and biographer[1] of the notedGreat War soldier"Galloper Jack" Seely.
Scott was educated atRadley College andCorpus Christi College, Oxford, where he read History.[2] His riding career saw him ride over 100 winners including theImperial Cup andThe Mandarin Handicap Chase.[3] He joinedITV in 1971, and was regularly seen and heard onThe ITV Seven and laterChannel 4 Racing for thirty years.[4] He also briefly presented football coverage for Channel 5. He was racing correspondent forThe Sunday Times (where he succeededRoger Mortimer) and wrote for theRacing Post (which he co-founded withSheikh Mohammed),[4]The Independent on Sunday andThe Sunday Telegraph. He was appointed an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours list in 2009.[3]
In 2013, Scott publishedHenry Cecil: Trainer of Genius, a book aboutHenry Cecil. It won the 2014British Sports Book Awards in the "Best Horse Racing Book" category.[5]
In 2017, forty-six years after he first broadcast on ITV, Scott returned to the channel when it resumed broadcasting horseracing after a long break.[4]
