Broadmeadow railway station is a heritage-listed railway station and major regional interchange located on theMain Northern line inNew South Wales, Australia. The station itself serves theNewcastle suburb ofBroadmeadow. The station was first opened on 15 August 1887.

The island platform was accessed by a level crossing at the station's northern end until replaced by anunderpass on 2 March 1973 opened byMinister for TransportMilton Morris.[3] The station was upgraded to wheelchair accessibility in July 2017.[4]

Following the electrification of the line fromWyong in June 1984, passenger trains including theBrisbane Limited,Gold Coast Motorail,Grafton Express,North Coast Daylight Express,North Coast Overnight Express,Northern Mail andNorthern Tablelands Express changed from electric to diesel traction at Broadmeadow.

Platforms and services

Broadmeadow has three platforms. It is serviced bySydney TrainsCentral Coast & Newcastle Line services travelling fromSydney Central toNewcastle.[5]

It is also serviced by NSW TrainLinkXplorer andXPT long-distance services from Sydney toArmidale,Moree,Casino andBrisbane,[6][7] as well as daily coach services toTaree.[7] These coach services are operated byBusways as routes 150 and 151.[8][9]

TheAustralian Rail Track Corporation's Broadmeadow Centralised Traffic Control centre for the northern half of the state including theNorth Coast line toBrisbane, is located just south of the station, as isTransport Asset Holding Entity's Broadmeadow signal box which controls the Broadmeadow toEraring section of theMain Northern line.

Yard

South of the station lies the extensive Broadmeadow yard.NSW TrainLink have a depot that maintains itsEndeavour andHunter railcar fleets. The formerBroadmeadow Locomotive Depot is used to house preserved rolling stock.
