Broadford (Irish:Áth Leathan)[2] is a small village in easternCounty Clare, Ireland and a Catholic parish of the same name. As of the2022 census, the village population was 294.[1]
The hamlet was immortalised byThe Waterboys in the instrumental 'The Trip to Broadford.' This reflects the cultural importance oftraditional Irish music in County Clare, though the village itself is not especially notable for its contribution to the nation's musical heritage.
TheR466 road passes through the village of Broadford betweenO'Callaghan's Mills andO'Briens Bridge. Broadford is in the Glenomra Valley on the southern slopes of theSlieve Bearnagh Mountains nearDoon Lough.
The Catholic parish of Broadford is in theDiocese of Killaloe. It originated in the medieval parishes ofKilseily andKillokennedy. Part of Killokennedy was amalgamated with Kilseily to form what is now the parish of Broadford. The parish today has three church buildings, which as of 2014 served about 800 parishioners.[3]
