Brian Morris (born 18 October 1936) isemeritus professor ofanthropology atGoldsmiths College at theUniversity of London . He is a specialist onfolk taxonomy ,ethnobotany andethnozoology , and on religion and symbolism.[ 1] He has carried out fieldwork among South Asian hunter-gatherers and inMalawi . Groups that he has studied include theOjibwa .[ 2] He has also written widely on thehistory of ideas and in particular onanarchism .
Brian Morris was born in theBlack Country . He left school at fifteen.[ 3]
He worked as atea planter inMalawi .[ 4] He became an anarchist in the mid-1960s, and remained active in several protests and political movements.[ 5] He later received adoctorate insocial anthropology at theLondon School of Economics , doing his PhDethnographic fieldwork withMalaipantaram hunter-gatherers in SouthernIndia .[ 4]
He has written books and articles onecology ,botany ,ethnobotany andethnobiology ,political philosophy , religion, anthropology, andsocial anarchism . His 2004Kropotkin: The Politics of Community , published byPM Press , locates anarchist thinkerPeter Kropotkin within intellectual history as a theorist of social science, power, and ecology.[ 6]
