Brian Patrick Kelly (born January 14, 1976) is an American former professionalfootball player who was acornerback in theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theUSC Trojans and was selected by theTampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round of the1998 NFL draft. Kelly earned aSuper Bowl ring with the Buccaneers inSuper Bowl XXXVII and also played for theDetroit Lions. His son,Kyu Blu Kelly, is currently playing in the NFL.

Kelly is a high school graduate fromOverland High School inAurora, Colorado. Overland won the 1993 6A state championship in his senior year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Kelly was drafted by theTampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2nd round of the1998 NFL draft.[2][3] In 2002, he helped the Bucs win theSuper Bowl, during that same season he had 8interceptions, which tied for the league lead along withRod Woodson. On February 15, 2008, he exercised a buyout option in his contract and became afree agent.

Detroit Lions

On March 8, 2008, he signed a three-year deal with theDetroit Lions.[4] He appeared in 11 games (all starts) for the Lions in 2008, recording 26 tackles and a pass defensed. The team released him on December 9 after signingcornerbackDexter Wynn.

Personal life

Kelly's son,Kyu Blu Kelly, played cornerback atStanford and was drafted by theBaltimore Ravens in the2023 NFL draft.[5]
