Breitscheid (German pronunciation:[ˈbʁaɪtˌʃaɪt]) is anOrtsgemeinde – amunicipality belonging to aVerbandsgemeinde, a kind of collective municipality – in theMainz-Bingen district inRhineland-Palatinate,Germany.
Breitscheid lies in theHunsrück betweenKoblenz andBad Kreuznach. It belongs to theVerbandsgemeinde of Rhein-Nahe, whose seat is inBingen am Rhein, although that town is not within its bounds. The placename comes from theMiddle High Germanbreit and-scheid: “wooded ridge”.
The council is made up of five council members who were elected by majority vote in a municipal election held on 2 March 2008.
