Taxonomy

[edit]

The genusBradornis was introduced in 1847 by the ScottishzoologistAndrew Smith to accommodate a single species, theMarico flycatcher, which is therefore thetype species.[1] The genus name combines theAncient Greekbradus meaning "slow" or "sluggish" andornis meaning "bird".[2] The genusBradornis was resurrected to accommodate a clade of species from other genera based onmolecular phylogenetic studies published in 2016 and 2023.[3][4]

Species

The genus contains three species:[5]
