Bosniaks in Syria, also known asBosnians in Syria, refers to citizens ofSyria who are, or descend from, ethnicBosnian Muslim people. They form one of the smaller ethnic minorities in the country.

Much of theBosniak community have becomeArabized; for this reason, they are often counted as "Arab".[1] Many Bosniaks who adhere toIslam self-identify asArabs.[2] However, there are still some who have retained their national identity.[citation needed]

History

In the 19th century, some of theBosniaks who were expelled fromBalkan lands under the new Christian rulers emigrated as refugees toOttoman Syria.[3]
