Bobby Allen Lane (born October 30, 1939) is an American former professionalfootball player who was alinebacker for two seasons with theSan Diego Chargers of theAmerican Football League (AFL). He was selected by theDallas Texans in the 20th round of the1961 AFL draft. Lane playedcollege football atCerritos College andBaylor University.
Bobby Allen Lane was born on October 30, 1939, inWagoner, Oklahoma.[1] He attendedBellflower High School inBellflower, California.[1]
Lane first playedcollege football atCerritos College from 1958 to 1959.[1] He was then a two-yearletterman for theBaylor Bears from 1960 to 1961.[1] He caught 18 passes for 248 yards and one touchdown in 1960 and 13 catches for 141 yards and three touchdowns.[2]
Lane was selected by theLos Angeles Rams in the 11th round, with the 144th overall pick, of the1961 NFL draft, and by theDallas Texans in the 20th round, with the 158th overall pick, of the1961 AFL draft.[3] He signed with the Texans in 1962 but was released later that year on August 28, 1962.[4]
Lane signed with theSan Diego Chargers of the AFL in 1963.[4] He played in seven games, starting one, for the Chargers during the 1963 season and recorded one sack.[3] He also played in the1963 AFL Championship Game, a 51–10 victory over theBoston Patriots.[5] Lane appeared in one game for the Chargers in 1964.[3] He was released in 1965.[4]
