Boatswain Bay (French:Baie Boatswain[2]) is an uninhabited waterway in theQikiqtaaluk Region ofNunavut, Canada. It extends eastward fromJames Bay into the headland, a part ofQuebec.
Characterized bysalt marshes,brackish marshes, open sea, and inlet habitats, the bay stretches 197 km2 (76 sq mi), with an elevation ranging up to 5 m (16 ft)above sea level.
Due to the number ofmigratory birds theBoatswain Bay Migratory Bird Sanctuary was established in 1941. As abird sanctuary it is a CanadianImportant Bird Area (#NU097), aBiodiversity Reserve, and aKey Migratory Bird Terrestrial Habitat site.[3][4]
