Theblack spine-neck swamp turtle (Acanthochelys spixii), alsocommonly known as thespiny-neck turtle orSpix's sideneck turtle, is aspecies ofturtle in thefamilyChelidae. The species isendemic toSouth America, specially in theSouthern Cone region.

Etymology

Thespecific name,spixii, is in honor of German biologistJohann Baptist von Spix.[6]

Geographic range

A. spixii is found inArgentina,Brazil,Uruguay,[7] and possiblyParaguay.
