During theAmerican Civil War, on July 18, 1863, GeneralEdward E. Potter led a small army fromNew Bern to destroy theWilmington and Weldon Railroad, passing through Black Jack. He also raidedGreenville andTarboro. A historical marker was placed in Black Jack.[2]
