Chemical compound

Bis(2-ethylhexyl) adipate orDEHA is anorganic compound with the formula (CH2CH2CO2C8H17)2. It is thediester of2-ethylhexanol andadipic acid. It is a colorlessoily liquid.

DEHA is sometimes called "dioctyl adipate" or DOA, incorrectly. Another name is di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate. The abbreviation DOA has been used for both bis(-2-ethylhexyl)-adipate and dioctyl adipate

Use

As well as relateddiesters derived fromoctanol,decanol, isodecanol, etc., it is used as aplasticizer.[3]

DEHA is used as ahydraulic fluid, and a component of aircraftlubricants. It is sometimes also used as an ingredient inPVC-basedplastic wrap.

Toxicity

DEHA has very lowtoxicity. TheLD50 is estimated at 900 mg/kg (rat, i.v.).[3]

According to theInternational Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), it is "not classifiable as to itscarcinogenicity to humans (Group 3)."[4][5]
