TheBirmoghlasht Summer Fort is adilapidatedfort of the former ruler ofChitral State.[1] It is perched on top of a hill at an elevation of about 9,000feet.[2][3] It is located in what is now a core area of theChitral Gol National Park.[4]

History

The Birmoghlasht Summer Fort was built around 1910 on the initiative ofHis Highness Shuja ul-Mulk. During the existence of theChitral State the Mehtarand his family would move to the fort in thesummer to enjoy the cooler temperatures and also to hold court.

The fort is situated in close proximity to core areas of theChitral Gol National Park which is home tosnow leopards,markhors,ibexes,black bears,red foxes,otters,golden eagles,cranes,falcons,snow partridge and many other species ofwildlife.[5][6]

The Birmoghlasht Summer Fort which attracted many foreign ambassadors whenChitral was still aprincely state, now lures hundreds oftourists each year.[7]
