Birmingham Perry Barr is aconstituency[n 1] in theWest Midlands, represented in theHouse of Commons of theUK Parliament by independentAyoub Khan since July 2024. It had previously been held since2001 byKhalid Mahmood of theLabour Party.[n 2]
The constituency is located inBirmingham and covers the area to the north of the city centre. It is predominantlyurban and contains the neighbourhoods ofHandsworth,Aston andPerry Barr and stretches north to include parts ofKingstanding.
The northern parts of the constituency aroundOld Oscott are suburban, whilst Handsworth andLozells are inner-city in character and have ahistory of civil unrest.[3] The constituency is ethnically diverse;Asians make up a majority of the population (53%)—which includes a significantSikh community (10%)[4]—White people make up 21% of the population andBlack people are 17%. The White population reaches up to 80% in the northern areas of the constituency.[5]
Residents of the constituency have high levels of deprivation and low levels of income, education and professional employment compared to national averages.[6] Most of the constituency electedLabour Party councillors atthe most recent city council election in 2022, whilst the northern parts electedLiberal Democrat andConservative councillors. Most voters (55%) supported remaining in theEuropean Union in the2016 referendum, higher than the national figure of 48%.[6]
The constituency covers a broad area of north-westBirmingham.

The bulk of the Aston ward and the remainder of the Holyhead and Lozells wards were transferred fromBirmingham Ladywood, partly offset by the loss toBirmingham Erdington of the majority of the Oscott ward and the part of the Kingstanding ward.
