Anelectropop track withvideo game music elements, "Biri-Biri" is about a bond between rivals, referring to thevariousPokémon video games and using numerousJapanese sound symbolism . The3D -animated music video for the song was directed by Ryō Sasaki and depicts two girls' journey with variousPokémon . Commercially, "Biri-Biri" reached number 14 on theBillboard Japan Hot 100Oricon Combined Singles Chart .
Background and release [ edit ] On November 16, 2023,Yoasobi andThe Pokémon Company announced a collaboration with the song titled "Biri-Biri",[ 1] Pokémon Scarlet andViolet [ 2] CD single and scarlet-and-violet12-inch vinyl formats were released on March 13, 2024,[ 3] Pawmot on the games.[ 4] E-Side 3 [ 5]
Lyrics and composition [ edit ] "Biri-Biri" was inspired by the game-based short storyKimi to Ameagari o (きみと雨上がりを lit. 'After the Rain with You') , written by novelistAyano Takeda . The story tells about "treasure hunting" of the video games' characters:Nemona , a student council president at Naranja Academy inPaldea region, and Anna, a transfer student.[ 6] variousPokémon video games , fromRed andBlue Scarlet andViolet .[ 7] [ 8] Vogue Taiwan Ayase explained about the song that "does not want to convey any life message, nor does it want to tell you how to live in the future. It simply expresses our love forPokémon ."[ 9]
Musically, "Biri-Biri" was described as anelectropop song[ 10] hip-hop elements,[ 11] drum and bass rhythms,[ 12] Pokémon video game music , while the intro contains thebattle music sounds.[ 13] Japanese onomatopoeia , such as "kira kira" (キラキラ , "doki doki" (ドキドキ heartbeat ) , "biri biri" (ビリビリ electric shock ) , "jiri jiri" (ジリジリ , and "hiri hiri" (ヒリヒリ .[ 14] word plays replacing the original forms, such as "give me, give me" and "living living".[ 14]
