Binakol, also spelledbinakoe, is aFilipinochicken soup made from chicken cooked incoconut water, grated coconut, green papaya (orchayote),leafy vegetables, garlic, onion, ginger, lemongrass, andpatis (fish sauce). It can be spiced with chilis.[1][2] Binakol can also be prepared with other types of meat or seafood. Traditionally, it was cooked inside bamboo tubes or directly in halved coconut shells. The dish originates from theWestern Visayas, particularly the provinces ofIloilo andAklan.[3][4]
The dish is similar totinola andginataang manok, except that the latter two use water andcoconut milk, respectively, instead of coconut water.[5][6]
