William Eugene Murphy (May 7, 1944 – May 13, 2024)[1] was an AmericanMajor League Baseballoutfielder. He played in 84 games for theNew York Mets in 1966, mostly as acenter fielder and apinch hitter.[2] He had abatting average of .230 in 135at bats, with 3home runs and 13runs batted in.[2]
Murphy signed with theNew York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1962.[2] He was drafted by the Mets after the 1965 season in theRule 5 Draft, after four seasons in the Yankeesminor league system.[2][3]
